Cuttack, a city steeped in history and tradition, is set to undergo a major transformation as the Odisha government plans to take significant steps toward making it a smart city. On Saturday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi affirmed his administration’s commitment to modernising Cuttack, addressing the long-standing aspirations of its residents.
During his visit to several Durga Puja pandals across Cuttack, including those at Balubazar, Gopalpur, Chauliaganj, and Khan Nagar, Majhi emphasized the cultural significance of the city. The Durga Puja at Balubazar is believed to have commenced as early as 1510, underscoring Cuttack’s rich heritage. The Chief Minister offered his prayers at the pandals and praised the local communities for organizing the celebrations peacefully.
“Cuttack is widely known for its grand Dussehra festivities and the strong sense of brotherhood among its people. The city holds a special place in the hearts of many due to its cultural and historical legacy,” Majhi remarked, expressing gratitude to the Durga Puja committees for ensuring smooth and harmonious celebrations.
While interacting with the public, the Chief Minister acknowledged the growing demand for Cuttack to be developed into a smart city. “I have been made aware of the aspirations of the people, and several senior leaders have brought this matter to my attention. We will thoroughly review the proposals and suggestions from various sections of society regarding this transformation,” he said.
Majhi also reaffirmed his government’s dedication to the overall development of Odisha, citing the support of the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “The people of Odisha have entrusted the BJP government with their hopes, and we are committed to fulfilling them,” he added.
