Cold wave & dense fog engulfs Delhi, AQI in ‘severe’ category

The national capital woke up to dense fog early in the morning today leading to poor visibility in several areas. Due to the poor visibility, the Delhi Airport released an advisory for passengers travelling post-midnight asking them to take the updated of the flights from the respective airlines.

Cold wave & dense fog engulfs Delhi, AQI in ‘severe’ categoryAs per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), when visibility is between 0 and 50 metres it is very dense fog, whereas, when the visibility is between 51 and 200 metres it is dense fog. Similarly, for moderate fog, the visibility ranges from 201 and 500 metres, and for shallow fog at 501 and 1,000 metres.

Besides the cold wave and dense fog, Delhi also witnessed air quality in the severe category with AQI reading 492, as per System of Air Quality & Weather Forecasting & Research (SAFAR).
