In a significant development for urban planning, the Urban Development Department has issued an order declaring Bidadi, a prominent industrial area in Ramanagara district, as an integral part of the Greater Bangalore-Bidadi Smart City Project (GBDA). This announcement signifies a strategic shift, rebranding the former Bidadi Smart City Planning Authority.

The order, issued on November 18th, aligns with the vision of Deputy Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, who recently designated the Bidadi Smart City project as an integral component of the Greater Bangalore initiative during an event hosted by Toyota. This decision aims to inject fresh momentum into the ambitious smart city endeavor.

To spearhead the implementation of this transformative project, the Commissioner of the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) has been appointed as the Head of GBDA, emphasizing the importance of seamless coordination in realizing the vision. Furthermore, the Project Director of BMRDA will serve as the Member Secretary, contributing expertise and oversight to the development of the Greater Bangalore-Bidadi Smart City.

The Bidadi Smart City plan was originally conceived by the government in 2006, envisioning the creation of a smart city spread over 10 thousand acres encompassing 29 villages of Bidadi hobali. However, due to various challenges, the project faced stagnation for the past eight years. The recent announcement heralds a fresh beginning for the project, now rebranded as the Greater Bangalore-Bidadi Smart City Project, with the expectation of overcoming past obstacles and realizing the original vision of establishing a technologically advanced and sustainable urban center.
