Bhopal promotes Public bike sharing on World Bicycle Day

On the occasion of World Bicycle Day on 3 June, a two-hour event was organised in Bhopal which witnessed a good number of cycling enthusiasts.

This reliable, clean, environmentally fit and sustainable means of transportation, the bicycle, has brought together top governmental officials, professionals from various fields and businessmen.

The movement has been propelled to a large extent by Smart City project on public bike sharing (PBS) in Bhopal, said Bhopal Smart City, CS, Yogesh Khakre.

Last June, Bhopal launched India’s first PBS system that requires zero manpower for giving bicycles for renting. Means, bicycle can be rented through mobile application, RFID customer cards, which can be integrated with the existing cards used in public transport, call center and by typing mobile number onto the on-board computer.

The whole capital cost of PBS is about Rs 2.95 crore, compared to Rs 350 plus crore invested in BRTS and Rs 9,000 crore proposed for Bhopal metro rail phase 1.
