All registered ambulances to have GPS tracker installed: Rajasthan Govt

Transport

Rajasthan’s Transport Department has issued orders to equip all the registered ambulances in the state with a GPS tracker and emergency button. According to the officials, this is the first such order issued in the country that mandates for an ambulance, older than three years, to have a GPS tracker installed.

Since 2019, all commercial vehicles are coming fitted with GPS trackers. However, the order came as a result of continuous deliberations within the state government on a system to track ambulances in case of any mishap. Therefore, the order for installing a GPS tracker and an emergency button was issued.

As per the Transport Commissioner of Rajasthan Mahendra Singh Soni’s comments to a national daily, he said, “All our RTOs and DTOs will prepare a list of all the registered ambulances in their areas and keep a check on the compliance of the order. Also, the fares of the ambulance have been fixed to ensure patients face no problems during these difficult times of the COVID pandemic.
