In a bid to improve last-mile connectivity, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will install 1,000 bicycles and 500 e-bikes (or electric scooters) for a small fee across the city. These set of vehicles are set to be rolled out in six months as a part of the National Urban Transport Policy.

This project is an initiative by the Smart City Ahmedabad Development Limited. “The project will be operated by two private firms in collaboration with the civic body wherein MyByk will offer bicycles and Yulu will provide the electric scooters,” said AMC officials.

AMC will set up 200 parking stands for these sets of vehicles across the city. The services will be available round the clock. “In the first three months, 1,000 bicycles will be made available,” said an official.

The bicycle sharing scheme was introduced in the past as well but it did not garnered much good response. A similar connectivity project is also underway in the Gandhinagar city but there are few takers as of now.
