Kanpur Metro foundation stone to be laid on Nov 15 by CM Yogi Adityanath

The foundation stone of Kanpur Metro rail project will be laid in front of IIT Gate on November 15, 2019, by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Construction work will start on the ground after the foundation ceremony.

Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has started preparations for the ceremony. The foundation stone of the metro rail project will be unveiled in the main auditorium of IIT Kanpur.

Kanpur Metro will feature two corridors – the first one will be from IIT Kanpur to Moti Jheel via Phulbag to Naubasta and the second corridor will be from CSA to Barra-8.

According to reports, the construction of corridor from IIT Kanpur to Moti Jheel will commence first. The Rs 735 crore project will be 8.7 km long and an elevated viaduct along with nine metro stations will be built in this priority section.

AFCONS Infrastructure Limited has been awarded the tender for building the nine metro stations which are – IIT Kanpur Station, Kalyanpur Railway Station, Motijheel Station, Gurudev Chauraha Station, Geeta Nagar Station, Rawatpur Railway Station, Kanpur University Station, SPM Hospital Station and Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital Station.

Multiple cities in Uttar Pradesh are expected to get their own metro rail systems in the coming years, with Kanpur and Agra metros already having received approval from the Centre, while metros for Varanasi, Meerut and Gorakhpur are in various stages of planning.
