Polonnaruwa district in Sri Lanka has been selected to be developed as the country’s first “Smart City”, a Sri Lankan official has said.
Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) Chairman Kumarasinghe Sirisena said that several projects have been launched to upgrade education, health and transportation in Polonnaruwa.
He added that SLT has covered the entire country with ultra-fast fibre-optic connectivity, which would go a long way to develop smart education, health and transportation in the country.
Sri Lanka recently launched a Smart City Project under which 2,500 schools will be connected through internet to facilitate smart education.
Sirisena said that this project is expected to be completed within this year.
