1019 buses under TNSTC Coimbatore to resume operations from today

The Coimbatore division of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has said that as many as 1,019 buses will be operated in four districts from June 1 viz today. The decision to operate the buses came in following the announcements from the Government of Tamil Nadu on allowing operation of buses.

Tamil Nadu State Transport CorporationAs per the officials, half of the total fleet will begin operation which is in accordance with the State’s directions. Of the 1,019 buses that will resume operations, 375 buses will operate in Coimbatore Zone, 299 buses in Erode Zone, 197 buses in Tiruppur Zone, and 148 buses in Udhagamandalam Zone.

Considering the preventive measures, only the passengers wearing masks will be allowed to board the buses, according to the TNSTC officials. Whereas, all drivers and conductors are directed to wear masks and gloves. Moreover, the conductors will be providing hand sanitisers to people boarding the bus and after completion of every trip, the buses will be disinfected. On the precautionary end, only 20 passengers will be allowed per town bus and 31 passengers per mofussil bus. The buses will operate from 5:00 am to 9:00 pm every day.

In order to reopen transport services, the State, on Sunday viz May 31, has divided the districts into eight zones and the first zone includes – Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, Erode, Tiruppur, Karur, Salem and Namakkal falls. The buses will run within these districts in the first zone and also between the districts in the zone. E-passes are not required for travel within each of these eight zones.
