Srinagar Smart City

As the second month of 2025 unfolds, officials from Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) have reported significant progress in the implementation of the Smart City projects. Of the total 161 projects under the initiative, 143 have already been completed, with work continuing on the remaining 18 projects. Authorities are optimistic that all projects will be fully completed by March 2025, marking a major milestone in the city’s transformation.

The Smart City initiative, which was initially allocated a budget of Rs 940 crore, has seen substantial progress across various infrastructure projects. One of the prominent ongoing developments is the Riverfront Phase II project, which spans from Amira Kadal to Chattabal. This ambitious project is expected to further enhance the city’s waterfront, contributing to its aesthetic appeal and overall urban planning goals.

In addition to the riverfront project, the development of Shahr-e-Khaas is progressing at an impressive pace. This area, which is transforming three phases—Sections A, B, and C—has reached 85% completion. The development of this historic district is a crucial component of the Smart City initiative, with plans to preserve its rich cultural heritage while improving infrastructure. Furthermore, the underground ducting project along the right bank of the riverfront has seen substantial progress, with 75% of the work completed to date.

Other notable completed projects include the redevelopment of Lal Chowk, a central business district of Srinagar, and upgrades to key roadways such as MA Road and Residency Road. The Riverfront Phase I development, as well as the installation of the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) and the SD Net for better communication and data management, have also been successfully finished. Moreover, the establishment of the Srinagar data network (Intranet) is another step towards modernizing the city’s infrastructure.

Looking ahead, several key projects are set to make a significant impact on Srinagar’s development. Improvements to Batmaloo, Mominabad Road, and Dalgate-Gojwara Road are among the upcoming milestones that will further enhance transportation and connectivity within the city.

The initiatives aim to create a balance between urban development and the conservation of Srinagar’s unique heritage, ensuring that the city remains a vibrant cultural hub while embracing the benefits of modernization.

With a steady pace of work and the completion of several high-priority projects, Srinagar’s transformation under the Smart City initiative is progressing as planned. The city is expected to emerge as a model of urban development, combining modern infrastructure with the preservation of its historic charm.
