Modi Govt to launch 3 key schemes in June

HousingThe Union Urban Development Ministry’s major projects- ‘Smart City’, ‘Atal Mission for Urban Renewal and Transformation (AMRUT)’ and ‘Housing for All’ are set to be launched in the next month.

M Venkaiah Naidu, the Minister for Urban Development said that the consultations regarding the three programmes with various stakeholders, including state governments and Urban Local Bodies have been completed. “The Ministry would like to launch the programmes on a “convinient day” in June”, he added.

Apart from driving the economic growth, Smart City is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious project, which aims at recasting the urban landscape of India by making cities more livable and inclusive.

Under the scheme, each selected city would get central assistance of Rs.100 crore per year for five years. The aspirants for Smart Cities will be selected via a ‘City Challenge Competition, that intends to link financing with the ability of the cities to perform and achieve the objectives of the mission.
