Maharashtra Metro Rail implements new project-monitoring platform, to save cost

5D BIM, a new project monitoring platform, has been implemented by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. According to the corporation, which is implementing the Nagpur and Pune metro projects, the new system is likely to save cost and at the same time, reduce litigations.

5DBIM stands for 5D Building Information Modelling. The term is widely used in construction industries. It allows different stakeholders including architects and contractors to monitor the growth of any project and associated cost factor. The digital project management platform will be integrated with SAP and by further including live project data; it will allow the owners to understand the project more closely.

The system has already gone live in Nagpur, where the digital platform has been adopted for the first time. The system allows the owners to automate the process making it completely online and strengthen the project management capabilities of the construction companies.

Nagpur Metro Project, earlier, has also launched BIM academy in the city which is to be operational by July 2017. According to officials, this is another innovative approach which has been adopted by Maha Metro to boost global collaborations among other such institutions across the world. The academy will also work as a platform to share knowledge among metro fraternity.
