MTC begins special buses to ferry govt officials exempted from lockdown

Amid the nationwide lockdown implemented on Tuesday, March 24, due to widespread of Covid-19 across the country, Chennai’s Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) allotted 200 special buses to ferry government officials in emergency services or in services exempted from the lockdown. As the transport services in the country are put on halt, the move by MTC turned out be a relief for the officials going to work even in this situation.

According to a press release issued by the MTC, the department said that officials of the health department, medical specialists, Chennai Corporation sanitation staff and Metrowater staff, are being ferried from various places from the city by special buses deployed to the purpose during the lockdown term. A total of 200 special buses were operated on Wednesday, March 24, for bringing employees travelling to their workplaces from various places including Thoraipakkam, Tambaram, Singaperumal Koil, Poonamallee, Manali, Ennore and Nerkundram.
