Construction has commenced on a new skywalk in Sector 62, Noida, a major commercial and IT hub, as authorities move to improve pedestrian safety, reduce jaywalking, and ease traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest office districts. The Noida Authority is implementing the project as part of its broader efforts to strengthen urban mobility infrastructure.
The proposed skywalk will provide a safe and convenient crossing for thousands of office-goers, students, and daily commuters who currently cross busy roads at grade, often disrupting traffic flow and increasing the risk of accidents. Once completed, the elevated pedestrian corridor is expected to significantly reduce jaywalking while enabling smoother vehicular movement along the heavily congested stretch.
Sector 62 is home to numerous IT companies, educational institutions, commercial establishments, and government offices, attracting a large floating population every day. During peak hours, pedestrians frequently cross the multi-lane carriageway, creating bottlenecks and safety concerns. Officials believe the new skywalk will offer a dedicated, barrier-free crossing that separates pedestrian movement from vehicular traffic, improving both safety and travel efficiency.
The project is being developed with accessibility in mind. The skywalk will be equipped with elevators and escalators to ensure convenient access for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and commuters carrying luggage or other belongings. The design also includes weather protection, lighting, and other user-friendly features aimed at encouraging greater pedestrian use.
According to officials, the initiative forms part of Noida Authority’s larger strategy to promote sustainable and people-centric urban mobility. By encouraging pedestrians to use dedicated infrastructure instead of crossing roads at ground level, the authority expects to reduce traffic conflicts, minimise delays, and improve the overall commuting experience.
The skywalk is also expected to enhance connectivity between office complexes, commercial buildings, public transport stops, and nearby institutions, making it easier for commuters to move within the business district. Improved pedestrian infrastructure is increasingly being recognised as an essential component of modern urban planning, particularly in high-density commercial corridors where both vehicular and foot traffic continue to grow.
