Not a good news for Bihar’s Smart City mission programme as Patna Smart City slipped six ranks down to 35 in the latest Smart City rankings released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). In the 2019 rankings, the smart city secured 29th rank of the 100 smart cities selected by the MoHUA.
According to the Ministry, Patna Smart City Limited (PSCL) scored 54.99 points out of 100 in the rankings published on November 29, 2020, on the Ministry’s official website.
The drop in the rankings can be attributed to stalling of the smart city projects due to the COVID-induced lockdowns. Apart from this, the Bihar government’s fund crunch also had an adverse impact on the projects.
However, a slump in Patna’s rank is not the only concern for Bihar’s Smart City Mission as other cities in the State also witnessed drooping trends in the smart city rankings. Cities like Bhagalpur slipped to 66th rank with an overall score of 38.8, Biharsharif 67th with a score of 38.66 and Muzaffarpur 91 with a score of 21.1. Muzaffarpur has got zero in compliance parameter.
The smart cities are ranked on various parameters including completion of smart cities mission projects, the cumulative value of tenders issued, work completed, and utilisation of funds.
