India among top cyberattack target countries: Study

Smart cities have gathered the biggest chunk of attacks on Internet of Things (IoT) deployments, says a study by Subex, a telecom analytics solution provider. The study also mentions that India is one of the top countries targetted for cyber-attacks, and China is one of the top countries of origin on cyber-attacks.

Subex has extracted the state of IoT security in the first quarter of 2019 from their IoT Security Honeypot.

The study further states that interest in critical infrastructure is increasing among hackers. While India, Sweden and France are the targeted countries, Russia, China and Netherlands are named the origin of the cyberattacks.

Subex has categorised the top targets and the percentage increase in attacks as follows:

Top Targets Percentage increase in attack
Smart Cities 31
Manufacturing 19
Smart Homes   9

The top malware categories are Backdoor, Botnet and Password Stealers and the top malware variants are Mirai, Brickerbot and Miber.

With the World IoT Day being observed on 9 April, Subex has captured the details of the study in the following infographic.
