
The work on the first phase of the 40.35-kilometer Surat metro rail network in Gujarat will start from June 2020 and will be completed over the period of four years, the state government said in a statement.
There will be two routes in the first phase, one will be between Sarthana and Dream City, with a distance of 21.61 km and 14 elevated stations. A metro rail of distance 18.74 km with 18 elevated stations will be laid from Bhesan route to Sarol.
In February this year, the Centre had approved Rs 1,2020.32 crore for the metro rail project which is required to be finished in the next five years, the government said in a press release.
The press release quoted S S Rathod, Managing Director, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation, that will work on this project, as saying to start the construction work in June 2020 and aims to finish it by June 2024.
Rathod said that the detailed design work on the project has been undertaken by GMRC and the tender for the same will be released soon.
