Mangaluru Smart City Mission: 13 government schools to turn into smart schools

As many as thirteen government schools under Mangaluru City Corporation will turn smart under Smart Mangaluru Project.

The schools will not only be revamped structurally to the tune of Rs 11 crore but see an upgrade with smart learning solutions at a cost of Rs 5 crore. This initiative is a move towards bringing the standards of government schools at par with private educational institutions in the city.

Mangaluru Smart City Ltd, the SPV set up for implementing this mission in the city, has started working on the tender process to procure the necessary information and technology tools to develop the schools into e-smart schools.

“This will arrest the gradual decline in admissions to government schools for students, who will now have access to the latest teaching aids,” said D Vedavyas Kamath, Mangaluru City South MLA.

Managing Director of Mangaluru Smart City Company, Narayanappa said, “In the first phase, all these schools will be upgraded with good infrastructure, which includes classrooms, painting, furniture, playground, drinking water facility, and washrooms. Under the smart city project limited, we have earmarked Rs 11 crore for repair works. In the second phase, the schools will get smart boards, smart learning, internet, and other state-of-the-art facilities.”

Some of the schools to be developed under the project are Government Higher Primary School, Bolar; Government Urdu High School, Bunder; Government Higher Primary Urdu School, Bunder; Balmatta Secondary School; Government Primary School, Balmatta; Government Practicing SH School; Government Higher Primary School, Pandeshwara; Government Higher Primary School, Hoige Bazar; Government Higher Primary School, Nireshwalya, Bunder; Basti Garden Higher Primary School and Government Higher Primary School, Car Street.
