Jaipur, May 13, 2025: In a significant step towards sustainable urban infrastructure, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation – Heritage (JMC-H) has unveiled plans for an eco-friendly smart garage under the Smart City 2.0 initiative. With a sanctioned budget of ₹7 crore, the proposed facility will be developed near the Brahmpuri Sewage Treatment Plant and is currently in the design and planning phase.
Spanning approximately 1,000 square metres, the Adarsh Garage project aims to become a pioneering model in urban vehicle management. It is envisioned as a modern, multi-functional facility that provides efficient vehicle parking and integrates green technologies such as rooftop solar panels and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The structure will be designed with a clear focus on energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
According to the proposed plan, the facility will be constructed across three levels. The basement will be designated for the parking of large vehicles, while the ground floor will accommodate hoppers and smaller municipal vehicles. The first floor is intended to serve as a dedicated space for administrative operations and will include amenities for drivers such as rest areas and sanitation facilities.
Rajat Vishnoi, Chairperson of the JMC-H Public Vehicle Committee, highlighted the project’s innovative design. “This could become the country’s first smart garage where parking, EV charging, and driver facilities will all be available under one roof. If additional funding is approved, this project could serve as a national model,” he said.
The garage is being planned with a long-term vision of reducing the environmental footprint of public transport services in the city. Vishnoi further emphasised that the facility will cater exclusively to electric vehicles, both during its construction phase and in its day-to-day operations, with the intent of significantly lowering air pollution levels in the surrounding areas.
As part of the planning process, consultations are underway with private sector firms that specialise in green building technologies and smart mobility infrastructure. These partnerships are expected to bring in technical expertise and innovative solutions to ensure the project meets both functional and environmental benchmarks.
JMC-H officials have stated that construction will commence once the final design and implementation plan are approved by the relevant authorities. The Adarsh Garage is expected to not only improve municipal vehicle management but also set a precedent for smart, eco-conscious urban infrastructure across the country.

This project aligns with the broader goals of the Smart City Mission, which emphasises sustainable urban development through the integration of technology, energy efficiency, and citizen-centric services. If successful, the Adarsh Garage could serve as a template for similar initiatives in other Indian cities striving to modernise their urban mobility systems while addressing climate and environmental concerns.
