Bengaluru’s metro network has passed the 100-km mark after the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) approved the 7.5-km elevated section of the Pink Line between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere.

Route and Service Details

The cleared stretch is part of the 21-km Pink Line, which will eventually connect Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara. The remaining underground section, from Dairy Circle to Nagawara, is slated for trial runs in the coming months. At launch, trains will run every 6 minutes during peak hours and every 10 minutes during non-peak hours.

Inauguration Timeline and Network Growth

Chief Minister DK Sivakumar has indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the line around mid-November. The new stretch takes the network beyond its current 96 km of operational track across the Purple, Green and Yellow lines, and marks the first time Namma Metro has crossed the 100-km threshold.

Public Response and Project Background

Construction on the Pink Line began in 2017 and was held up by contractor issues and lengthy compliance processes. Commuters have urged authorities to open completed sections as soon as they receive safety clearance, rather than waiting for formal ceremonies. Residents point to earlier stretches that opened faster after public pressure.

Impact on Mobility

The extension is expected to ease congestion along heavily travelled South Bengaluru corridors, where road traffic has long been a daily challenge. Attention now turns to completing the underground Pink Line section next year, which will complete the full route to Nagawara.
