Mumbai’s BEST to add over 2000 electric buses in its fleet soon

Electric Buses

In a major step to cut down emissions and promote green transport, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has joined hands with Olectra Greentech to induce electric buses in its existing fleet. Olectra Greentech has won the tender to provide as many as 2100 electric buses worth Rs 3,675 crore.

As per the contract, Olectra Greentech will supply electric buses on the Gross Cost Contract (GCC)/Opex model for a period of 12 years. The Evey Trans Private Limited (EVEY), a subsidiary of Olectra, shall procure these 2,100 electric buses either directly by itself or through its Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) from Olectra Greentech.

Apart from delivering the e-buses, the company will also undertake maintenance of these buses throughout the contract period. The Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Olectra Greentech, in a statement, said, “We feel happy to receive this order from Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST). Working to build the largest electric bus fleet in India’s financial capital is a matter of pride. We will deliver the buses as per the schedule and will give the best commuting experience to the citizens of Mumbai.”

The city already has electric buses in the BEST fleet and it plans to further expand the fleet of e-buses.
