Owing to the lack of feeder services, the number of people using Lucknow metro has declined, to a large extent, in past few months. The number of metro riders has gone down by over 42%, since the launch of the city’s rapid mass transit system.
Since there is no connectivity from metro stations to prime locations, commuters are preferring cabs to travel, avoiding the scorching heat.
“There is always the risk of sunstroke if you walk all the way to the station from home or vice versa. I think it is prudent to take a cab then when there is no reliable feeder service,” said Saumya Tripathi who works in Hazratganj.
According to data the worst affected areas are Hazratganj, Lekhraj and Indiranagar, which house marketplaces and offices.

Figures also show, that the month of March, when the Lucknow metro was launched, saw an average footfall of 70,000. The number dropped down to 50,000 in April, with May further seeing a decline till 40,000.
The LMRC had announced feeder service involving auto-rickshaws from May, but no development has been made in the context so far. “The project has been delayed because the company granted contract is taking time to develop GPS-enabled software that will be installed in the autos. We have asked the company to expedite work and start the service as soon as possible,” said an official.
