news-2Studies related to start the second phase of Vizag as a smart city to start soon by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), said GVMC commissioner M Hari Narayanan.

Mr. Hari Narayan participated in the third BRICS Urbanisation Forum in the city on Thursday. He further added, “United States Trade Development Agency (USTDA) has come forward to provide financial assistance following which the first phase of studies was completed and the second phase would be initiated soon”. “Vizag will be turned into a smart city in a phased manner”, He further mentioned.

Considering the response of nearly 4 lakh suggestions in smart city challenge as a major step, he further said, “Vizag is one of the top five fastest growing cities in Asia and is the first city in the country to implement 100 percent LED streetlights.

At the same time, during the forum, D Alvaro de Oliveira of Brazil suggested setting up of a ‘BRICS Human Smart Cities Institute’ for greater emphasis on smart city development and for an integrated approach to urban development. He also suggested to use technology as a tool to bring social and behavioral transformation.

Another eminent person Mr. Prakash Gaur, CEO AP urban infrastructure and asset management said, “A per capital investment of Rs 10,000 in urban areas is required every year to improve the infrastructure. According to him, an overall investment of Rs 53,000 crore is required over the next four years.
