The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has ranked Nagpur on number 1 position with a score of 259.96.
Chennai was ranked 37th out of a list of 98 Smart cities. Coimbatore, Vellore, and Salem have secured 14th, 32nd, and 35th ranks respectively.
The Greater Chennai Corporation which is implementing many Smart City Mission projects has completed two projects in the last few years—Namma Chennai App and 28 smart classes.
And projects like pedestrian plaza at T Nagar, multi-level parking systems, rejuvenation of water bodies in the metropolitan area are still underway.
Taking stock of the rating, Deputy Commissioner (works) Govinda Rao said the remaining projects would be expedited and many projects are already in the execution stage.
