Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited

Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has planned to replace the ordinary energy meters with smart meters in a statewide drive post Lok Sabha Elections 2019. As many as 47 towns and rural areas under the Revised Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme (RAPDRP) will get the smart meters.

UPPCL aims to start the drive by May-June and complete it in the next two years. Within this, the electronic or electromagnetic meters will be replaced by the smart meters. For all the new connections also, the smart meters will be installed instead of regular meters.

The drive will be prioritised in the 10 cities of Uttar Pradesh which have been undertaken under the smart city project. These cities are Lucknow, Agra, Kanpur, Varanasi, Jhansi, Allahabad, Aligarh, Bareilly, Moradabad and Saharanpur.

After the installation of smart meters in these cities and 47 towns, the project will be taken up in the rural areas.
