Good news for women commuters in Prayagraj; City to soon ply pink e-rickshaw

In a bid to make Prayagraj city, formerly known as Allahabad more safer for women and women travelers, the city under Smart City mission will soon launch pink e-rickshaw which will be manned by an all-woman force.

These pink e-rickshaws will ply near schools, hospitals, malls, girls hostels, and busy intersections. These areas have been selected by the authority after taking a survey of those spots which are frequently visited by women commuters.

These pink e-rickshaws will also have several safety features like an SOS button and will be GPS enabled. These vehicles will remain constantly in touch with a centralized control room. They would offer to pick up and drop facilities for customers.

“In case a woman forgets to carry her mobile phone, she can press the SOS button to send an alert to the control room. The control room would send a team from the nearest police station to the women’s help. We would be adding more security features in these e-rickshaws,” said Vipin Kumar, assistant manager of Smart City project.

The project will be launched around Magh Mela, he added.
