Prayagraj to Introduce 100 New Digital Smart Classrooms in Government Schools

Digital Smart Classrooms

Prayagraj is set to witness a major boost in digital education, as 100 more government schools in the district will soon be equipped with modern smart classrooms. The initiative aims to enhance learning experiences for students and bring technology-driven education to more classrooms across the region.

With this expansion, nearly one-fourth of all government-run primary schools in Prayagraj will have digital smart class facilities, officials said. The project will cover primary, upper primary, and composite schools spread across 11 development blocks of the district.

Each smart classroom will be set up at an estimated cost of ₹71,000 and will be equipped with advanced interactive learning tools. The installations will be carried out by the Social Empowerment and Development Society (SEEDS), a private agency engaged by the state government for the purpose.

District Coordinator of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Vikas Pandey, said that smart classes are already operational in 526 government schools in Prayagraj, along with 66 schools developed under the Smart City project.

“With the addition of 100 more schools, the total number of government schools with smart classrooms in the district will reach 692. These classrooms will be equipped with K-YAN all-in-one smart devices and a 1 KVA UPS to ensure uninterrupted learning,” he said.

The K-YAN device, popularly known as the “Knowledge Vehicle,” is a portable unit that combines a computer, projector, speakers, and an interactive smart board into a single system. It enables multimedia lessons, animations, videos, and interactive sessions, making classroom teaching more engaging and effective.

Schools with at least 100 enrolled students have been selected for the upgrade to ensure maximum impact. Officials believe the initiative will help improve student participation, understanding, and overall academic performance.

According to Basic Shiksha Adhikari Anil Kumar, the new smart classrooms will be distributed across various blocks, including Koraon (10 schools), Pratappur and Saidabad (8 each), Kaudihar, Shringverpur, Baharia, Dhanupur, Chaka, and Manda (7 each), Uruwa (6), and Phulpur (5), among others.

At present, Prayagraj has 2,832 government schools with a total enrolment of 3,48,804 students. Around 11,328 teachers are engaged in teaching, maintaining a teacher-student ratio of 1:31.

Education officials say the expansion of digital classrooms is part of a broader effort to modernise government education and provide children with the same technological advantages available in private schools.

The initiative is expected to bring a significant positive change in classroom learning and help prepare students for a more technology-oriented future.
