Dholera Smart City Gains Momentum with Solar Energy and Tech Investments

Dholera

Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) in Gujarat is rapidly emerging as a model for sustainable urban and industrial development in India. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel recently undertook a comprehensive review of the ongoing infrastructure projects in Dholera SIR, which is envisioned to become India’s first Semicon City with cutting-edge smart infrastructure and integrated renewable energy solutions.

The Chief Minister’s visit focused on assessing the progress of the Dholera Smart City project, which is being implemented under the strategic vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Government officials provided a detailed briefing on the completion of major infrastructure components, including wide road networks, underground utilities, and plug-and-play industrial facilities designed to attract domestic and global investors.

One of the defining features of the Dholera Smart City is its commitment to sustainability. A 300 MW solar power park has already been commissioned and is fully operational, catering to the region’s electricity demands and significantly reducing its carbon footprint. Other critical infrastructure—such as a water treatment plant, sewage and effluent treatment systems, and ICT backbone infrastructure—has also been completed, reinforcing Dholera’s status as a self-sustaining and resilient urban center.

During the review, Chief Minister Patel evaluated the progress of the Tata Electronics semiconductor manufacturing facility, a landmark project aimed at strengthening India’s domestic semiconductor ecosystem. The presence of both national and international semiconductor companies in Dholera is expected to position the region as a prominent industrial and technological hub, giving a major boost to India’s aspirations of becoming a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing.

Infrastructure supporting industrial expansion is advancing rapidly. Officials informed the Chief Minister that 95 percent of construction work on the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway has been completed, ensuring swift connectivity between the city and the state’s capital. Patel also visited the under-construction Dholera International Airport, where work is underway on the passenger terminal, cargo building, and runway. The airport, with an estimated investment of ₹1,350 crore, is poised to significantly enhance regional connectivity and logistics.

In addition to industrial and transport infrastructure, Dholera is also seeing the development of essential social amenities. Projects such as the Bhimnath-Dholera freight railway line, a 192-bed hospital, a school, a fire station, and residential facilities for investors and the workforce are progressing steadily, ensuring that the city evolves as a holistic urban ecosystem.

Ambrish Parajiya, Managing Director of GAP Group, highlighted the city’s transformative potential. “Dholera is set to become one of India’s most dynamic industrial clusters. Our world-class township project aims to complement the region’s industrial growth by offering high-quality residential and commercial spaces,” he remarked.
