Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has purchased nearly 25,000 acres about 45 miles west of Phoenix, USA, to build a Smart City.

Gates idea is to prepare the Smart City to be known as ‘Belmont’ by integrating technology into its residents’ lives.

“Belmont will create a forward-thinking community with a communication and infrastructure spine that embraces cutting-edge technology, designed around high-speed digital networks, data centers, new manufacturing technologies and distribution models, autonomous vehicles and autonomous logistics hubs,” an investment firm controlled by Gates said in a statement.

India has already announced its Smart Cities Mission whereby 100 cities will be build using the ICT. India has already selected 90 cities so far.

The land was purchased for $80 million and will host  80,000 residential units, with more than 3,800 acres for office, commercial and retail space, 3,400 acres of open space and 470 acres for public schools.
