Visakhapatnam has the second most clean port of India

The Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) has bagged the second position in the ranking of ports on cleanliness and sanitation parameters. This drive was undertaken by the Ministry of Shipping. The top spot was bagged by the Haldia dock with a score of 782 points, whereas VPT secured the second spot with 750 points.

12 major ports in the country were judged by the Quality Council of India (QCI) on the basis of sanitation and cleanliness. The criteria also included waste segregation, solid and liquid management of incoming ships, waste management in the port operations and township area of the major ports, reported the Times of India.

VPT has carried out initiatives like plantation drive and setting up of 6.25 MW of solar project and 190 KW power projects using the rooftop spaces of the port, which helped it bag the second spot. Also, the office buildings and quarters were refurbished in addition to construction and maintenance of toilets in different parts near the port area.
