Vadodara to conduct GIS survey of properties

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has decided to use Geographical Information System (GIS) technique to survey properties in the city.

With the help of GIS, all the properties will be mapped on a map obtained by the civic body from the National Remove Sensing Agency (NRSA). A pilot project of the GIS-based system was conducted at the ward nine of the civic body, The Times of India reported.

“The experience at other cities suggested an increase of 20 to 30 per cent in the number of properties that come under the tax net. We believe that this would be around 10 to 15 per cent in Vadodara too thus increasing the tax base,” said an official.

The new system will also provide information about the status of the payment of  property tax, area etc. VMC hopes to map all the properties which are not mapped till now.
