The Surat Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) plans to launch pilot projects for automatic fare collection system, intelligent transit management system, city surveillance traffic management system and fibre optic network to home services by Diwali.
Being launched as part of the Smart City Mission, the services would be implemented in one zone before expanding them gradually to cover the entire city.
According to SMC City Engineer Jatin Shah, the automatic fare collection system would be introduced for Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) on canal corridor, to begin with. “Once the tickets are validated, only then passengers would be allowed into the buses.”
The intelligent transit management system would see integration of all services connected with vehicles whereas SMC plans to install vehicle locating system operating through GPS under the city surveillance and traffic management system.
SMC will be organising a workshop on fibre to home service on August 24. There will be a discussion on the topic before SMC proceeds to set up its Wi-Fi network and supply the equipment to each household in the city, as per the plan.
SMC also plans to roll out services like spot penalties, EMI collections and supply of S-Connect cards for SMC-based services and others connected to Aadhar card.
