Srinagar getting transformed into a Smart City

After being included in the Smart Cities Mission, Srinagar is going through a major transformation.

The city is now gleaming with bright lights at night. Even the chinar trees have been lighted.

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has invited suggestions from the public for Srinagar Smart City proposal. Despite the constant militant attacks, over four lakh people  gave their suggestions on social media.

The general public has suggested the creation of biking lanes, walkways and digitisation to be . There are also plans to promote Srinagar city as a hub of Kashmiri culture and civilization.

The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has also for installed new street lights at the Lal Chowk giving it a new look.

“This is the first phase as a part of city’s beautification. This work is being done in systematic way. The new street lights would be installed across the city in phase wise manner, and will make Srinagar a smart and eye-catching city,” said Srinagar Municipal Commissioner Shafakat Khan.

Srinagar city, is all set to get a smart and intelligent traffic lighting system which will help in smooth vehicular movement on its busiest streets and junctions. In the first phase, 10 such smart and intelligent lights are being installed by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on the spots identified by the Traffic Police.

The lights will be connected to a central control room, from where the traffic will be managed.
