20 selected smart cities to launch projects by June 25

On the first anniversary of the launch of Smart City mission by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the 20 selected smart cities are asked to launch the project on grounds by Union Urban development  Minister, M Venkaiah Naidu. He again emphasized that no politics was involved in selection procedure and the allotted amount should only be spent in the smart city mission which should be started by June 25. He was addressing a workshop on ‘India Smart City Mission: Next Steps’ in New Delhi.

 

He told that everything will be watched and observed regarding the expenditure of money in the mission. He also said that it’s the vision and will of a city for a bright future backed by a credible action plan is what matters most and not the current position of the city.PM alone can’t create a difference, its the participation of public and smart leaders of the cities in action, vision and inplementation, which can make the dream come true.

 

He asked the top 20 cities to bring special purpose vehicles in action and launch the ground operations of smart city project. He also requested the next 23 cities participating in the fast-track competition to learn from the experience of first batch of 20 cities and improve their proposals.
