Pune to get eco-friendly electric buses

Supporting the go-green initiative, the Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) will introduce electrical buses in the city. Initially, three electrical buses will be brought under the Pune Mahananagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) on a trial basis for one month. These buses will run between Aundh, Baner and Balewadi.

Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) will operate the buses while the civic bodywill provide a charging point and bear the cost of replenishing the battery. The Pune Municipal Corporation will provide electricity worth Rs 1.50 lakh to these buses., reported The Times of India.

Chetan Tupe of development corporation said that the project aims to restrict pollution. Three companies will provide one bus each to operate on a pilot basis. Tupe added that PMPML will decide the bus routes and provide conductors, while drivers will be deployed by the companies.
