Universal Construction Machinery & Equipment: Poised for Global Growth

Universal Construction Machinery & Equipment forges ahead with a range of new initiatives and products for domestic and international markets

Universal Construction Machineries and Equipments has grown on the strength of its top quality products like on-wheel batching plant, transit mixer, and self loading mixer. To augment its leadership position in concreting equipments, the company has expanded its product portfolio with the recent launch of self loading concrete mixers & entire range of vertical man & material handling equipments like passenger and material handling lift.

The company is stepping up its growth with the opening of its research and development center – one of the firsts by an Indian company and recognized by Government of India. The purpose behind setting up an R&D center is to develop new products, upgrade the existing ones, develop import substitutes suited to Indian conditions, localize products for International markets, and constantly improve the manufacturing process. A team of 22 engineers and 8 technicians will be working at this center with a target of making at least five products annually and intensifying the competition in international markets.

The self loading mixer (SLM) is developed in-house by the R&D team, which saves foreign currency and heavy technology transfer fees. The SLM is available in capacities of 2 and 4 CU m/hr capacities. The product is ideal for projects which require constant shifting of machines like canal lining, road dividers, and windmill and irrigation projects. The machine can self load the aggregate, batch mix, transport and discharge the concrete at specific locations. Only one operator is sufficient to operate the machine. The machine is fully hydraulic, with all wheels steerable, which enables machine to move at sites at 30degree inclinations and also turn very short radii of approximately 3m. It mixes concrete which is in transit at 2-6rpm and discharges it into a high speed of 18rpm.

Universal SLM offers maximum comfort level with rotating seat, open cabin and clear visibility with adequate safety measures. The product is designed specifically keeping in mind the needs of Indian consumer, at a time when there is acute shortage of manpower. This product has a huge potential in areas where irrigation projects are on the verge of completion and canal projects are being started. A startup which started as a small shed in 1980s making block-making machines by Rohidas More has in three decades emerged as the biggest construction equipment company in the business in which it operates. Universal has bloomed into an Indian multinational with a reach in more than 40 countries
