Piyush Goyal visits Masdar Smart City in UAE

Union Minister of Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines Piyush Goyal visited Masdar smart city in Abu Dhabi, UAE, while on a four day visit to attend the World Future Energy Summit.

A high-level business delegation led by FICCI is also accompanied the Minister. Masdar smart city uses modern technology and clean energy generated on site from rooftop solar technology for power. The city is a unique combination of ancient Arabic architectural techniques with IT initiatives.

It has one of the largest photovoltaic installations in the Middle East and is set to become one of the world’s most sustainable smart cities.

Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, a research university is dedicated to cutting-edge solutions in the fields of energy and sustainability. Goyal met the representatives from Masdar who explained the different type of energy efficient architectural designs and measures implemented to make the city “smart”.

Masdar City is a planned city project in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. Designed by the British architectural firm Foster and Partners, the city relies on solar energy and other renewable energy sources.Masdar City is being constructed 17 kilometres (11 mi) east-southeast of the city of Abu Dhabi, beside Abu Dhabi International Airport.
