Piyush Goyal unveils plan to open 36 coal mines in 36 months

Piyush-Goyal1Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy has unveiled the roadmap of Western Coalfields Limited’s (WLC) plan to open 36 mines in 36 months. The company is planning to augment its coal production by 150 per cent.

In order to help CIL to achieve its coal production target of one billion tones by FY2020, the minister said that enhancing coal production will help in providing electricity to the deprived parts of the country. He congratulated WLC for resetting its goal from 60mt to 100mt of coal production by 2020.

He also applauded the WLC team for acquiring 2500 hectare land and generating 1300 direct employment opportunities to farmers who have given their land in last one year. The minister added that the enhanced production will not only fulfill coal demand of Maharashtra but will also provide relief to the southern areas of the country.
