NMC hosts workshop on sustainable urban development

Nagpur Municipal CorporationWith the aim to promote sustainable urban development in Nagpur, which was recently ranked 31 in the ‘Ease of Living’  by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) partnered with Agence Francaise de Development (AFD) and European Union (EU) to conduct a two-day workshop.

The workshop started with a presentation by AFD consultant Mathieu Arndt highlighting the initiative – ‘Mobilize your city’. This was followed by a brief address of Ramnath Sonawane, CEO of Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Ltd (NSSCDCL), who underscored the various Smart City Initiatives taken recently. Mahesh Gupta, Joint General Manager of MahaMetro, spoke about the inclusive mobility plan of Nagpur Metro and connectivity of Metro lines.

With regard to urban development, NMC constituted a committee to cope up with garbage related issues by taking clue from Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), which stood at the first place in Swachh Bharat Survey. Also, efforts to make 27 Unaccompanied Personnel Housing (UPH) centres in association with TATA Trust were initiated.

Other delegates who attended the workshop were Arnaud Dauphin, AFD lead transport specialist; Jatin Arora, AFD grants officer; Rajnish Ahuja, AFD project officer; and officials of National Institute of Technology (NIT) and National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI).
