In a bid to provide uninterrupted data services, RailTel, the telecom arm of the Indian Railways in collaboration with Google, will provide free wi-fi services to seven major railway stations including Allahabad in the North and Sealdah in the Eastern part of India.
Soon Pune, Ernakulum, Lucknow, Ujjain and Gorakhpur will be added to the list of wi-fi enabled railway stations.
This service will come as a passenger delight who may be stranded for few hours or those having fairly long waiting period to board the train. Even travellers passing through these stations will be able to use the services.
As per sources in the Railways, the wi-fi facility is to be provided to 100 major railway stations by the end of this year.
The service, built over the fibre network of RailTel, is designed to offer high speed broadband-like experience to any user with a mobile connection on a smartphone.
