Karimnagar replaces Hyderabad in Smart Cities list

karimnagar-cityKarimnagar, the third biggest city in Telangana, has paved its way into the smart city list replacing Hyderabad which was recently included in the list along with Warangal.

This key announcement came following Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao recommending to the Union government for including Karimnagar town in the Smart City list, instead of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

The case was consolidated later with Karimnagar MP B.Vinod Kumar, Mayor of Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) S. Ravinder Singh, Commissioner Krishna Bhaskar and others taking up the issue with Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu.

When the Centre had asked states to send proposals for inclusion of cities of their choice in the Smart Cities Challenge, TS had proposed Hyderabad and Warangal Municipal Corporation for consideration.

Later, the state government decided to remove GHMC from the proposal as it felt that it would be difficult to turn   Hyderabad into a smart city with the 100 crore financial package.
