Janmitra Smart Cards — a cashless initiative by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation

Janmitra Smart Cards, a cashless initiative by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to promote digital transactions will set the ball rolling from 1 September. These cards will give assistance in payments of civic taxes, marriages, birth certificates and Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) ticket fare etc.

“Janmitra card would be available at 141 BRATS stations, 60 civic centres and 47 branches of ICICI Bank from 16 August,” said Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra.

“In order to have the access of Janmitra card one needs to produce Aadhaar card and deposit Rs 50 once,” Nehra added.

With 44,000 Janmitra cards issued by AMC, Nehra averred it as a biggest digital cashless payment scheme and would help to retain Rs 18 crore for the civic body by eliminating additional involvements.

Moreover, Nehra asked citizens to coordinate with AMC in a contest organised by the Central Government. The contest will ensure people from 100 Smart Cities to use their Janmitra card for tax payments for 100 days. Also, a lucky draw announcing the winner who would be given a smartphone. In total, 100 smartphones will be given to contestants as prizes, Nehra said.
