One nation, one power: Govt eyes uniform power rates

340295-piyush-goyal-rnaThe Government of India is highly dedicated to achieve the target of uniform power rates across the country to make all it’s information available for the people on mobile application ‘Vidyut Pravah’.

“The Government’s mission is to achieve one nation, one grid and one price,” Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy, said. “It is a very good news that all of India has power at the same rate that is Rs 4.40,” he added.

The central government is also monitoring number of villages electrified everyday.  “We are concerned for the talented rural children who should not miss opportunities due to absence of electricity, ” Goyal said.

Explaining about the past year’s power sector achievement, the Minister informed about electrification of 7,108 villages out of 18,452 un-electrified villages against the target of 2,800, distribution of more than 9 crore LED bulbs by EESL only, thus, contributing to 150% growth, addition of highest ever 3,200 MW of wind power capacity.

“This year our focus is on hydro power which has been ignored in recent past due to huge challenges including local resistance and land acquisition,” Goyal said.
