European Union’s programme to help develop sustainable Panaji

With the aim to develop a strategy on solid waste management and urban transport, Panaji, the State capital of Goa will join hands with Croatian City of Dubrovnik. This move transpired under the European Union’s programme for sustainable urban development.

The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) will sign MoU with EU funded projects, International Urban Cooperation (IUC) India to build a more sustainable city.

A key Government official said,“The IUC India programme serves the purpose of developing the cooperation between India and EU city that will develop local India plan in the first phase within a period of 12-15 months.”

In order to boost the cooperation on sustainable urban development between European cities and partner cities in Asia, North and South Asia, the EU has formulated this ICU programme.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affair (MoHUA) and Government of Goa gave the approval to the decision of IUC India programme to support 12 Indian cities including Panaji.

Taking its cognizance, the local action plan would be prepared via discussions with all stakeholders.
