East Coast Railway gives green flag to Bhubaneshwar new railway station

Bhubaneshwar railway stationWith a recent move by the East Coast Railway (ECoR), the Bhubaneshwar new railway station will be made functional before Rath Yatra festival. The deadline for the event has been delayed owing to amendments as to contract agency by the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL).

Divisional railway manager of Khurda Road, Braj Mohan Agarwal said, “There will be halts in beginning for three passenger trains. The halts will be provided by ECoR for the express and super fast trains down the line”.

The station comprises of nine rail lines out of which five rail lines are operational. Besides, it has seven platforms. Efforts made for passenger facilities like fitting of water kiosks, benches, ticket counters, electric equipment installation have delivered good results and the work for station building, staff quarters and approach road was finished last year.

With a distance of 14 km away from the existing main station near Master Canteen, the new station is situated between Mancheswar station and Barang railway station. While the current station monitors 140 trains on the daily basis yet is complaining due to heavy traffic inconvenient on its six platforms.

“As the Nizamuddin, Old Delhi and Anand Vihar work for New Delhi railway station, this station will serve same purpose to Bhubneswar main station’s alternative terminal. The new station will act as a starting point to southbound trains and will aid to passengers”, ECoR sources said.
