Dharamsala set to have ‘smart’ skyway to connect with McLeodganj

dharamshalaDharamsala and McLeodganj are set to have a 12-km passenger unibus skyway to address the traffic congestion on the connecting roads between the two popular tourist destinations.

Dharamsala, the first proposed smart city of Himachal Pradesh, has engaged a company from Belarus to complete the ambitious project. A

survey of Dharamsala and McLeodganj will be conducted after which a report will be prepared to fix the cost of the project proposed by the Dharamsala Municipal Corporation.
“We are expecting that report would be prepared by February after which work would be started on the first skyway project of Himachal Pradesh,” said Himachal Pradesh Urban Development Minister Sudhir Sharma, who is also MLA from Dharamsala.

As per the proposal, suspended wheeled vehicles would operate above the ground on the innovative rail and string elevated structure. This has been proposed keeping in mind that there is no scope of widening the roads in project area.

Dharamsala is a popular tourist spot from where Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama is running the Tibetan government in exile.

The suburbs of Dharamsala include McLeodganj, Bhagsunath, Dharamkot, Naddi, Forsyth Ganj, Kotwali Bazaar, Kacheri Adda, Dari, Ramnagar, Sidhpur, and Sidhbari which, are also frequented by tourists.
