bhubneshwarBhubaneswar has bagged third place at the recently-held World Smart City Expo Awards 2016 in Barcelona, which saw participation from 250 cities across 45 countries under three groups — City Award, Project Award and Innovative Global South Award.

“All credit goes to the Bhubaneswar citizens and our Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on whose guidance and efforts we have achieved such a feat. Bhubaneswar has become a world class city and it is likely to receive adequate investments and tourist attention,” said Anant Narayan Jena, Mayor, Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation.

Bhubaneswar was one of the top six finalists under the Innovative Global South Award category. Kenya’s capital Nairobi emerged as champion, while Chennai followed the capital of Odisha in 4th position.

Smart cities were shortlisted based on the technologies they are using to resolve urban challenges and how they are improving lives of citizens.

Bhubaneswar had already won the best smart city award in the country earlier this year.
